appliance disposal

Disposing correctly of your old appliances is a serious matter these days. Local authorities will have proper facilities to ensure items are processed and recycled, and will often provide a collection service for large items.

Use the menu below for more information.

Local facilities

If you cannot manage it yourself, your local authority will usually provide a collection service for large items, often free of charge. Click for further details about your local council's services.

To find out more or to locate your nearest DCF you can use the postcode finder at www.recycle-more.co.uk, where you can also find lots more information about recycling in general.

Responsibilities

Recent changes to the regulations regarding Waste Electrical and Electronics Equipment (the WEEE Directive) mean that manufacturers and retailers have a responsibility to provide information about how consumers can responsibly deal with their unwanted appliances. This includes the need to promote:

>> The requirement to minimise the disposal of WEEE to landfill and to achieve high levels
of collection and environmentally responsible disposal.

>> The consumer's role in contributing to the reuse, recycling and other forms of
recovery of WEEE.

>> The potential effects on the environment and human health resulting from the
presence of hazardous substances in EEE.
